Traffic delays for roadworks signalled

Work by power firm Belco will cause traffic delays in the east of the island for the rest of the summer, the public works ministry said yesterday.

Harrington Sound Road near Quarry Road in Hamilton Parish, will be closed to traffic on Saturday and Sunday so that Belco trench work can cross over from the eastbound lane to the westbound lane.

A stretch of road between Quarry Road and Wilkinson Avenue, also in Hamilton Parish, will have one lane closed from June 22 to September 3 to allow a new road surface to be laid.

The Quarry Road work will be carried out between 8am and 3.30pm from Mondays to Fridays.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes until the work is completed.

A spokesman for the public works ministry said motorists will have access to Harrington South Road by next week, but that they should expect delays from temporary traffic control signs as well as traffic lights set up near Shark Hole.

He also advised motorists to use caution and avoid speeding that could endanger road crews.

Anyone with questions should contact Tine Beer-Searle, the highways civil engineer, on 501-3044.
