Southside water supply disrupted

Tenants at Southside, St David’s lost water today after a break in the main water line, the Bermuda Land Development Company advised.

Andrew Dias, the chief executive of the BLDC, said ageing galvanised piping left over from the US Base at Southside had broken near the main roundabout.

“It’s everyone on Southside – it’s not small,” Mr Dias said.

“It’s the main line, which means we unfortunately had to shut down the whole system. It’s about 6 to 7ft deep, so we have to expose the pipe and keep going until we fix it. We just have to get it done.”

He said it was “optimistic“ service would resume this evening.

The Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre in St David’s maintains its own water storage, according to the Bermuda Hospitals Board.

A spokeswoman advised at 4pm that the area of the break was being dug up for repairs and would take several hours.

She added: “We expect this repair to take a few more hours and we cannot switch the water back on until this has been done.”

The BLDC apologised to its tenants.
