Delays in garbage collection in the West End were signalled yesterday because of a “disruption in the labour force” over Covid-19 health regulations.

A spokesman for the public works ministry said there were delays to trash pickups yesterday and that the problem would continue into today.

He added that “outside agencies will assist with residential garbage collection”.

The spokesman said: “The Corporation of Hamilton and other private waste collection agencies will begin collecting residential garbage as per the regular collection schedule.”

He added residents should leave today’s garbage out as collections on the main roads will start at 7.30am tomorrow.

Garbage can also be dropped off at the Tynes Bay incinerator, which is open from 7am to 7pm.
