A supermarket chain has extended its three discount days a week scheme until the end of the year, it said today.

The MarketPlace group earlier pledged to offer the five per cent discount on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays until September 30 to help people hit by the coronavirus crisis.

But a spokesman said that to continue to support the public, the discount days will run until December 31 and will be reviewed after that.

Seth Stutzman, the president of The MarketPlace group of companies, said: “With the continuing uncertainty for all and recent spike in cases, it’s vital we do what we can to continue to support our communities.

He added: “We hope this gesture combined with our savings initiatives will make life a little easier for our valued customers.”

MarketPlace introduced extra discount days at the start of the pandemic, when shopping days were assigned based on customer’s last names.

The grocery chain continued to offer discounts from Monday to Wednesday after shopping restrictions were lifted.
