Hydroponic farm job advertised

A hydroponic farm fuelled by renewable energy could soon be introduced to the island, according to a recent job listing.

The listing – published by Executemps Ltd on behalf of Cardinal Farms Ltd on Wednesday – sought an electrical manager for a “complex hydroponic growing system” with a “heavy focus on quality, sustainability and energy efficient systems”.

It added the hire would be required to design and install renewable energy systems needed to run a hydroponic greenhouse, along with repairing and maintaining the electrical and plumbing systems.

The greenhouse was described as being 6,000 square feet – roughly the size of two tennis courts.

Cardinal Farms Ltd was registered as a company in Bermuda in October under directors Phoebe and Michael Heslop – both Bermudian.

Hydroponic farming uses mineral-rich nutrient solutions with substrates such as clay pellets or gravel instead of soil to grow plants – a process that uses less water than traditional farming methods.
