Flower power scoops double Christmas window accolade
Everything came up roses for a florist after its shop scooped the top prize in both categories in a Christmas window decorating contest.
Demco, on Hamilton’s Church Street, won Best Christmas Window, which was selected by a panel of judges, and the People’s Choice award, picked by a public vote, in the Hamilton City Council-organised event.
Charles Gosling, the Mayor of Hamilton, announced the winners on the steps of City Hall yesterday morning.
Mr Gosling said: “We want to extend a huge congratulations to Demco Florist for being our overall winners.
“It was an exciting contest this year with some high-quality entries and we want to thank those businesses for answering the City’s call to help create a magical holiday spectacle for our island’s residents.”
The first runner-up was 1609 Design, a jewellery, clothing and gift store on Reid Street, and fast food outlet Mr Chicken on Queen Street was second runner-up.
The annual competition attracted entries from 13 city businesses and more than 1,000 members of the public cast their votes.
