Government asks for bids to fix Achilles’ Bay access

The Ministry of Public Works hopes to improve public access to an east end beach, according to a recent request for quotation.

The RFQ, issued on June 24 and available on the government website, said the ministry wanted to engage with a contractor to rebuild stairs leading to Achilles’ Bay, located near Fort St Catherine.

The procurement documents said: “The work consists of demolition of existing dilapidated structure and construction of new stairs with reinforced masonry and concrete.

“The scope also includes supply and install of stainless steel handrails.”

Documents said that temporary scaffolding has been erected at the site to give the public access to the beach in the short term.

The deadline for submissions is 3pm on July 8, with a non-mandatory pre-bid meeting to be held this Friday.
