Habitat gives home a little TLC
A $10,000 donation was made from a thrift store to pay for maintenance of a home to help women and their children.
Funds from the Habitat ReStore were handed over to the Transformational Living Centre for Families to cover maintenance support.
Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda, which runs the thrift shop, was behind a two-year project in partnership with the Women’s Resource Centre to transform a derelict former rest home into a purpose-designed residence to house up to ten families.
The centre offers a secure home and provides programmes and opportunities for up to a year.
Sheelagh Cooper, the Habitat for Humanity of Bermuda chairwoman, said: “Now that it is up and running and operated by the Women’s Resource Centre, we have an ongoing commitment to support the project for $10,000 per year, to ensure the upkeep of the building.”
Edonna Bean, the TLC’s executive director, added: “The TLC remains grateful to Habitat for Humanity for their support in the ongoing maintenance of the building facilities.”
