Work on the St George’s Marina project is under way, with the goal of the first phase being completed before next spring.
Mark Soares of Bermuda Yacht Services said yesterday that while the project was still in its early goings, work was proceeding well.
“The work that’s in progress now is basically the restoration of the existing docks,” he said.
“The objective would be completion for the busiest part of the year, which is April, May and June.”
Mr Soares added that work on the main building was already 85 per cent complete and planning approvals had now been received for the next stage of the project, which includes work on the town dock opposite Ordnance Island.
Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, said last month that the long-awaited $4.1 million development would “contribute towards the economic revival in St George’s”.

The redevelopment was unveiled by the Government last year as part of an economic stimulation package for the East End.
At that time, the Government said it would pay out $1.5 million in funding, with an additional $1.2 million being provided through the Unesco World Heritage Fund.
But Colonel Burch confirmed this year that the cost of the project had increased because of “both the current inflationary price cycle and the increase in construction work content of the project through design development”.
