Human remains found during search in Dominica for former Bermuda police officer
Police in Dominica have launched an investigation after human remains were discovered during the search for a former Bermuda policeman who has been missing at sea since August 11.
The unidentified human remains were found during the search for Huron Vidal, 73, who worked in Bermuda’s Marine Section between 1976 and 2004. Mr Vidal retired from the Bermuda Police Service as a watch sergeant in the Eastern Division.
Several news sources including Dominica News Online report that the remains were found by fishermen on Monday afternoon.
According to the reports, Fixton Henderson, acting inspector of police of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force, said: “On Monday, August 15, 2022 at about 1pm, fishermen from the community of Colihaut discovered some remains, which appear to be human remains, while at sea.
“The remains were found outside the coast of Bioche within a radius of one nautical mile of the shoreline. The apparent human remains, which have not yet been identified, were handed over to the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force via the Dominica Coastguard and are being stored at a funeral home while an investigation continues.”
