Devonshire homes lose power

Outage: a palm frond became entangled in power lines (Photograph from Facebook)

Hundreds of homes across Devonshire were in the dark yesterday evening after a widespread outage just after 6pm.

The power company’s website reported 350 customers lost power.

A spokesman for Belco said the power cut was caused by a palm frond becoming entangled with a line.

He said a similar problem also caused an outage on Monday.

A post on the company’s Facebook page said yesterday: “We are aware of an outage affecting a significant number of our customers in Devonshire Parish.

“A palm frond has become entangled in power lines.

“Our crew is on site and working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

It added: “If you are in the area, please exercise caution when driving or riding past our working crews as the safety of you and our team is of the utmost importance.

“We thank you for your patience as we work to restore your power.”

The outage covered an area from Ocean View Golf Course and Parsons Lane, south along the parish boundary to Tee Street and the South Shore.

It extended to south of Loyal Hill down to Devonshire Bay.

There were no outages listed on Belco’s website this morning.
