Hurricane Fiona: what services are stopping when
As Hurricane Fiona approaches the island, services across the island will be impacted.
• Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited has announced that the BELCO cashiers located in the lobby of the Company’s Head Office at 27 Serpentine Road will be closed to walk-in customers tomorrow, Friday, September 23, 2022, due to the passing of Hurricane Fiona.
We ask that customers only call us on 955 in the event of an emergency like a pole fire. Please do not call BELCO to report an outage during the storm or in the immediate aftermath. BELCO will advise customers when they should call to report an outage. If a customer has an AMI meter, his or her outage will be reported to our central plant immediately.

• Due to the potential weather conditions posed by Hurricane Fiona, the Bermuda Health Council will close its office at 3pm today. We will re-open on Monday, September 26 at 9am. Please remain safe Bermuda.
• BF&M wishes to inform customers that its offices will be closed on Friday, September 23 due to Hurricane Fiona. Please take all necessary precautions to prepare at this time. Updates about our reopening will be issued in the press, on the BF&M website and through our social media channels, in line with EMO recommendations.
Remember service is at your fingertips through the storm at www.bfm.bm, as long as you have internet connectivity. There you can find hurricane preparedness information, check your policies, access forms and even make payments. After the storm, our claims team will be standing by ready to assist you. • The MarketPlace group of stores (including Price Rite and Sears) has announceed modified hours due to Hurricane Fiona: Thursday 22 September – all stores closed by 8pm, Friday 23 September – closed; Saturday – regular hours
• Bermuda College will close at 4pm today and all classes scheduled after 4pm will be conducted online. The College will be closed on Friday.
• Due to the timing and projected length of tropical storm force winds of Fiona, The Royal Gazette will not be published tomorrow. There will be a full newspaper on Saturday and round the clock coverage on www.royalgazette.com and social media.
• In anticipation of Hurricane Fiona, the Argus offices will be closed on Friday, September 23, and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so. If you require immediate assistance, please call 298 0888 or email at insurance@argus.bm. An Argus representative will contact you as soon as possible.
• For the safety and security of our clients and employees, please be advised that all Clarien Bank offices will close at 12 noon on Thursday, September 22, and remain closed through Friday, September 23 due to Hurricane Fiona. Normal business operations may resume Monday, September 26, pending a facility safety inspection.
• With Hurricane Fiona passing close-by to the island, Lindo's has made the decision to close its stores tomorrow (Friday) in the interest of public safety. The stores will close at 7pm tonight and reopen at am on Saturday.
• All Butterfield Bank branches will close at noon today and plan to reopen at 9am on Monday morning. Some ATMs will be temporarily unavailable this morning. Any no-wait deposits made after 11am today will be processed on Monday and the Reid Street Banking Centre will remain closed on Saturday.
Customers are asked to use Butterfield Online and the mobile banking app in addition to contacting the call centre.
• Ferry service will be suspended this afternoon. The last Pink Route ferry is scheduled to depart at 4pm, with the last Blue and Green Route ferries to depart at 4.10pm.
• Bus service will also halt this evening, with the last bus scheduled to depart at 9pm.
• Government offices will remain open. More information about the storm’s impact on government services is expected to be announced tomorrow afternoon
• Public schools will be closed all day on Friday.
• Government trash collection will not take place on Friday
• Trash collection in the City of Hamilton will be suspended this afternoon, with businesses and residents urged to have their trash out for collection before the last collection at 3.30pm (The City of Hamilton changed the time from 2.30pm.)
• The administrative offices of the City of Hamilton and the City’s works depot on Laffan Street, will both be closed on Friday, along with both art galleries in City Hall
• Warwick Academy will be closed on Friday. The school will open tomorrow, but there will be no secondary after-school prep or after school activities. Primary after-school and the two primary clubs will run normally today
• Bermuda High School will also be closed on Friday. The school will open today, but there will be no after-school activities and all students should be collected or off campus by 4pm
• The National Sports Centre will close at 2.45pm today and will remain closed through Friday. It will reopen on Saturday after the site has been assessed.
