Church to hold block party on Curving Avenue to spread Christmas cheer
A Pembroke church will spread Christmas cheer at a free block party on Sunday.
Shayne Scott, the pastor at the Church of God of Prophecy on Curving Avenue, said the congregation wanted to do something positive and share the true meaning of Christmas with residents in the area.
He said: “Our mission is to reach out into the community with the love of God and spread some joy by reminding people that Jesus exists and that we are his hands outstretched.”
The church held a Hallowe'en event and its success inspired them to plan the Christmas one, which will have singing, dancing, children’s games and home-made snow.
Mr Scott said: “We will have some minute-to-win-it games, musical chairs, some decorating activities so that the kids will have something to take away and a local DJ will be offering his time.”
The Ministry of Public Works said part of Curving Avenue would be closed to traffic from 2pm to 7pm on Sunday.
A ministry spokesman said: “Motorists who wish to reach Parsons Road during this time are advised to detour along King Street or Happy Valley Road.
“The Ministry of Public Works wishes to encourage the full co-operation of the motoring public and apologises for any inconvenience that may result.”
