Former main branch of Clarien Bank closes permanently

Digital first: Clarien Bank said with the move to digital banking in 2022, all primary client services have moved online or become automated (File photograph)

The former main branch of Clarien Bank in Hamilton has been permanently closed.

The bank said that its office at 19 Reid Street had been an “emblem” of Clarien for nearly 20 years at that location.

But with the move to digital banking in 2022, all primary client services moved online or became automated.

Service continues at Clarien’s new flagship location at Point House on Front Street.

Remaining client services, including preordered cash and chequebook pick-up and draft collection, are to relocate from 19 Reid Street to Clarien’s 25 Reid Street facility.

Clients should enter the new facility through the Reid Street entrance and take the elevator to the second floor for assistance.

Clarien said it had added “significant enhancements” at 25 Reid Street, as with Point House, to work in tandem with its digital-first facilities.

Along with a new collection site for clients, the office was said to be “centred around physical and mental awareness”, including a gym for staff.

The building, which is the former home of the Knick Knack department store, was revamped as the headquarters of Capital G bank in 2004.

The bank, which began business in 2001, rebranded as Clarien in 2014.
