‘Dynamic and inspirational’ Juanae Crockwell named as new WRC executive director
A therapist and community activist has been appointed to lead the team at the Women’s Resource Centre.
Juanae Crockwell will become the WRC’s new executive director when she takes over the role on Monday, succeeding Elaine Butterfield, who has been serving as the interim director.
Ms Crockwell called the role her “dream job”.
“As a former client of this establishment, I am also deeply humbled by the opportunity to serve the women of Bermuda in this capacity,” she said.
“The Women’s Resource Centre has been a pillar of support for over three decades and I am looking forward to building on this foundation – continuing our support services, expanding our network and raising awareness on issues that impact the lives of women in Bermuda.”
Julia Hawkins, the WRC board chairwoman, said: “The Women’s Resource Centre is tremendously pleased with the appointment of such a dynamic and inspirational young woman.
“Her appointment coincides with the launch of our new strategic plan and Juanae’s wealth of experience in non-profit as well as fund development will enhance the organisation’s goals, especially during these tough economic times.”
Ms Crockwell holds a master’s degree in community development, with an emphasis in mental health, from De Montfort University and has helped women confront trauma and reshape their lives.
She has worked with the Synod of the Anglican Church and the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, is a member of Social Justice Bermuda and is also The Royal Gazette’s religion correspondent.
The Women’s Resource Centre offers information and confidential counselling to women and promotes gender equality on the island.
