A community centre in Hamilton will be closed “until at least early April”, a government spokeswoman reminded residents today.

The Sammy Wilson Community Centre, on Angle Street, paused operations last month after it suffered water and electrical damage.

A spokeswoman said today: “The Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation notes that the Ministry of Public Works are making the necessary repairs to the space.

“As such, all programmes normally held at the Sammy Wilson Community Centre are suspended until the facility reopens, which again is anticipated to be around early April.

“Those facilitators whose programmes take place at the SWCC have been notified of the disruption.

“Where possible, some community programmes will continue. In some instances, certain programmes will take place at alternative venues.

“Again, the DYS&R regrets any inconvenience caused and thanks the public for their continued co-operation and patience.”
