Good Friday KiteFest on list of world’s best Easter celebrations
A Bermudian tradition is listed as one of the world’s 20 most unique Easter celebrations.
Paul Stafford, who writes for Travelmag, called Good Friday’s KiteFest, held at Horseshoe Bay, “one of the jollier manifestations of this springtime festival, kissing the sky with thousands of colourful kites”.
He added: “Some are simple, some elaborate and many have long tails to help the kite stay up in the air.
“But one thing that the kites share in common is a cross-shaped central structure, which is said to be a nod to KiteFest’s origins, when a teacher demonstrated with a kite how Jesus ascended to heaven after his crucifixion.”
The annual event, sponsored by the Chewstick Foundation, is featured alongside a horse show in Germany, a Florentine fireworks display and an artwork parade in Guatemala.
