A charity dedicated to trying to end homelessness in Bermuda has received a huge boost — with a three-year commitment of support from an insurance company.

BF&M is donating $150,000 over three years to Home, which was established in 2021 and provides a range of services and programmes to support individuals who are experiencing homelessness.

Its goal is to provide shelter and support services, help individuals transition from the streets, rebuild their lives, and achieve long-term stability.

Denise Carey, chief executive and director of Home, said: “Bermuda’s homeless deserve a safe home, food security, ease of access to services and a pathway home. Together, we can accomplish that.

“It is only through Home’s relationships with committed partners that we can bring everybody in — and we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work closely with BF&M.

“That commitment will help us raise awareness around the tragedy of homelessness in Bermuda, and take practical, accountable steps to work with the island’s other social agencies to end it.”

Since 2022, Home has ...

• Identified more than 650 people experiencing homelessness in Bermuda

• Prevented more than 70 cases of homelessness through liaison with government agencies and other non-profit services

• Ended 52 existing cases of homelessness, transitioning individuals from sleeping rough to independent living and residential programmes; others were reunited with family

• Provided intensive case management support to 67 previously homeless people

Abigail Clifford, BF&M’s group president and chief executive, said: “Homelessness is a critical and rising issue in Bermuda, and we believe that it is our responsibility as a corporate citizen to support organisations like Home, which is working tirelessly to support individuals facing the challenge of homelessness.

“We are honoured to be able to contribute to Home’s efforts and make a meaningful impact in our community.”
