Belco’s kite safety poster winners announced
More than 150 primary school pupils submitted entries to the Belco kite safety poster competition this year — and the winners have now been announced.
The best overall poster was awarded to five-year-old P1 student Suri Daniels from Bermuda High School. Suri received a $500 toy voucher and a $500 Belco voucher.
The most beautiful poster was awarded to six-year-old P2 student Evanna Peets from West Pembroke Primary School, who received a $250 toy voucher prize.
The best kite safety message poster was awarded to five-year-old P1 student Cruz LeBlanc from Saltus Cavendish. Cruz received a $250 toy voucher prize.
An honourable mention was awarded to Kaden Bean-Wolfe, a P2 student who attends West Pembroke Primary School. Kaden received a $100 toy voucher.
Staff of the electricity supplier visited classrooms after the launch of the competition to discuss electricity safety especially while flying kites.
Krista Barnes, the company’s director of communications and sustainability, said: “This is the 34th year of the Belco kite safety campaign and poster competition, and we thoroughly enjoy being able to visit classrooms and educating students about kite safety.
“It was wonderful to receive more than 150 fantastic posters from students across the island this year and it was difficult to choose the winners.
“Kite safety awareness is very important to highlight during the annual Good Friday holiday and by participating in the competition students learn the important lessons on electricity safety while having fun creating a piece of artwork.
“This year’s creative and colourful posters are on display on our Facebook page and bring great joy to our followers. On behalf of the staff at Belco, congratulations to the winners.”
