Special Coronation Garden to mark crowning of the King
The coronation of King Charles III is to be marked in Bermuda with the founding of a Coronation Garden inspired by the monarch’s work in support of the environment and sustainable farming.
Coronation Day on May 6 comes with a commemorative tree planting along with the opening of the garden at the Botanical Gardens in Paget.
There will be a service of thanksgiving at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity in Hamilton at 3pm on May 7, followed by a public holiday on May 8 in recognition of King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort.
The public holiday includes a “royal edition” of the children’s reading festival supported by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport in partnership with the Bermuda alumnae chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated.
The festival runs from 11am to 4pm at Victoria Park in Hamilton, with tiaras and crowns on offer for youngsters to get pictured on a throne.
Every child attending up to age 14 will receive a free book, and Bermudian authors and community leaders will read their favourite children’s stories.
The festival comes with fun castles, face painters, a creative arts station and the Bermuda National Library’s Youth Services.
Each child will receive free popcorn and water, with food vendors also available.
