Coronation holiday forces garbage collection delay next week

Trash collection will be pushed back by a day next week in the wake of the Coronation of the King.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works said that waste collection would follow a “roll-over schedule” to account for Monday’s public holiday.

“On roll-over weeks, waste collection days move over by one day resulting in waste usually collected on Monday being picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday's waste on Wednesday, and so on, ending with Friday's waste being collected on Saturday,” the spokesman said.

“The public may also use the Tynes Bay public drop-off, which is open seven days a week from 7am until 7pm or on public holidays from 9am until noon.

“The public drop-off is available to dispose of household waste, tin, aluminium, glass bottles (TAG recyclables), hazardous materials such as paints and pesticides, and bulky burnable and non-burnable items.

“This facility is free and open to drivers of private cars, L and LP vehicles only.”
