Spirit of Bermuda to hold awards ceremony
The students who proved to be the best performers on their voyages on Spirit of Bermuda will be rewarded next month.
The Bermuda Sloop Foundation Awards ceremony, which will take place at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute next month, will see seven youngsters receive awards who have demonstrated qualities that the programme encourages aboard the Spirit of Bermuda.
Pupils chosen by their teachers and crew will be awarded based on their initiative, leadership, skills mastery, situational awareness, and determination and perseverance.
They will also be eligible for a Captain’s award, for the crew member who has assisted their crewmates best while taking on their own duties, and the Engineer’s award, for those who have shown keen interest in the mechanics of the ship.
Robin Hamill, the chief executive of the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, said: “During our residential voyages, they are immersed in a safe environment fostering positive behaviour, building confidence, and cultivating critical life skills — preparing them to meet life’s challenges, overcome adversity and avoid antisocial behaviour.
“The young people we’ll be recognising at our awards presentation displayed these skills in a variety of ways.
“We hope the community will join us to celebrate them and their accomplishments.”
The awards ceremony is at the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI on June 1 at 5.30pm.
