The Hamilton Lions Club and Terceira’s service station raised more than $17,000 for three local charities through its annual Gas-O-Rama raffle draw.

Vision Bermuda, Bermuda Junior Golf Association and Tomorrow’s Voices each received $5,750.

Thanking the Hamilton Lions for its continuous support, Theresa Hall, executive director of Vision Bermuda, said the funds would go towards renovating Beacon House, the charity’s headquarters.

She added: “With all the incredible and generous help we have received from our community, we are well on our way to become a beacon of hope and opportunity to those who need our services.”

About the organisations that benefited from this year’s Gas O Rama

Vision Bermuda, formerly known as the Bermuda Society for the Blind, helps the island’s visually impaired and their families.

The Bermuda Junior Golf Association supports the island’s young golfers.

Tomorrow’s Voices helps children who have been diagnosed with autism.

Stacy Hill, the funding development officer for Tomorrow’s Voices, said the money would help the organisation buy a vehicle.

The donated funds will allow the Bermuda Junior Golf Association to give more lessons and equipment to young golfers.

Despite being given funds from raffle sales last month, the Gas-O-Rama did not take place until Saturday, May 13, because of roadworks being done near Terceira’s North Shore station in Smith’s.

The amount raised from the event, in which charity volunteers pump gas for a portion of the day’s earnings as well as tips, is still being calculated.

Highlighting the company’s 54-year partnership with the Hamilton Lions, Malcolm Terceira, representing the station, said: “It has been a pleasure assisting with organising and hosting the Gas-O-Rama at our North Shore location.

“With this social and community development and improvement effort, our family has made a conscious decision to honour the legacies of Malcolm Ralph Terceira and Lion Teddy Chapman.

“We sincerely thank all the persons involved in the work to execute this fundraiser and equally all our customers who contribute to this worthy cause.”
