A gombey troupe started and led by a group of primary schoolboys performed for a prominent gombey troupe yesterday.

The Purvis Gombey Troupe of Purvis Primary in Warwick performed a five-minute dance for H&H Gombey Troupe and the school during a morning assembly.

Tiffany Bean, a teacher at Purvis Primary, said the troupe of ten came together last year as an extracurricular activity, but soon became committed to holding a show when they learnt of the H&H Gombeys Troupe’s visit.

She said: “These student have spent their recess, lunch, and after-school time, sometimes class time, to practise and perfect their performance.”

Ms Bean added: “They are the only school on island to have created their own troupe.”

H&H Gombeys visited the school as part of a primary school tour to teach youngsters about the history of the dance.
