Tea party helps to raise awareness about elder abuse
Senior citizens learnt more about elder abuse at a free tea party organised by the Government.
Seniors sported their best attire at the annual event, which was presented by Ageing and Disability Services and held at Open Door Christian Assembly in St David’s.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, said: “[The tea] served as a platform to raise awareness about elder abuse, promote socialisation among seniors and encourage education on preventing such abuse.”
Keeona Belboda, senior abuse registrar and manager at ADS, said she hoped seniors felt respected and important.
She said: “The event brought together individuals from different backgrounds who are committed to making a difference in the lives of seniors.
“It was noted that fostering an environment where seniors can connect with others in the community establishes a support system that combats isolation and vulnerability.”
Ms Furbert thanked the ADS for holding the event every year and said that it sent a strong message about the community’s commitment to seniors.
She added: “Bermuda, it is our responsibility as a community to protect our seniors and ensure their safety, wellbeing, and dignity.
“We need collective action and I urge everyone to stand united and raise awareness about elder abuse.”
