Household trash will be collected a day later than usual because of National Heroes Day on Monday, the Ministry of Public Works announced.

A ministry spokesman said that because of the holiday, garbage normally collected on Monday will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s waste on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, Thursday’s on Friday and Friday’s on Saturday.

The spokesman added: “Members of the public may also use the Tynes Bay public drop-off, which is open seven days a week from 7am until 7pm — 7am to 12pm on public holidays — to dispose of household waste, tin, aluminium and glass recyclables, hazardous materials such as paints and pesticides, and burnable and non-burnable items.”

Drivers of private cars, L and LP vehicles can use this free service.
