Information Commissioner re-elected to international board
The Information Commissioner, Gitanjali Gutierrez, will serve another three years on the executive board of the International Conference of Information Commissioners.
Ms Gutierrez said her reappointment shows the strength of Bermuda’s office.
She added: “The re-election also ensures that Bermuda’s next Information Commissioner will retain a leadership among the membership of the ICIC and help lead the implementation of the conference’s strategic priorities.”
Established in 2019, ICIC connects information commissioners from around the world to promote access to public information policies.
Representatives from Albania, Bangladesh, Argentina, the Philippines, Germany, Mexico and South Africa are also on the conference’s executive board.
During this year’s summit, which took place in the Philippines from June 19 to 21, Ms Gutierrez was on a panel that addressed the importance of strengthening existing public access to information laws.
Joining her at the conference, Lakai Dill, an investigative officer for the Bermuda ICO, spoke about things that might stop government authorities from disclosing information about public contracts.
All panels from last month’s event can be seen on the conference’s YouTube page.
