Fundraiser for Jerry Collantes to be held at Swizzle Inn

A fundraiser is being held at Swizzle Inn on Sunday to help the family of a late chef.

Jerry Collantes, from the Philippines, worked at the restaurant for less than a year before losing his life as the result of a bike crash in Devonshire last month, becoming the island’s sixth road fatality of 2023.

Remembering Mr Collantes, who was 38, as a “kind, gentle man” who had “great knowledge of local cuisine”, Jay Correia, the owner of Swizzle Inn, said holding a fundraiser to support his family was an “easy decision for staff”.

He said: “His family — a wife and two children — are not wealthy, and he, like many guestworkers here, was the primary breadwinner.”

All funds raised during the event, as well as half the restaurant’s sales from the night, will go to them.

The fundraiser, which will feature raffles, karaoke, Filipino food specials and a DJ, will begin at about 5pm.

Those unable to attend can donate through a cash bucket at the restaurant or by bank transfer.

Send money to the Jerry Collantes Fund, c/o Swizzle Ltd, Bank of Butterfield account number 2000 6060 749935 100. Spaces are limited for the fundraiser. Call 293-1854 to reserve
