PLP salutes Martha Dismont as ‘a hero and a champion’
The Progressive Labour Party has paid tribute to Martha Dismont, describing the social worker and founder of the Family Centre charity as “a hero and a champion”.
Ms Dismont, who died earlier this month, spent her life advocating for Bermuda’s vulnerable — particularly children. Her death prompted a wave of tributes from politicians and public figures.
In a statement extending heartfelt condolences to Ms Dismont’s family, a PLP spokesperson said: “ Ms Dismont was dedicated to working with and advocating on behalf of vulnerable Bermudian families.
“As the founder of Family Centre, she worked tirelessly with this organisation to provide support and services for our vulnerable population.
“Family Centre also addressed other significant community issues including gang violence.
“Ms Dismont was unrivalled in mobilising people to become more involved to ensure that there was continuous progress in closing the gaps in our community. She wanted us to care for our children, our families, and address the difficulties and traumas they were experiencing.
“A person of great faith, she encouraged our community to be our brothers' keeper and to make a difference in their lives, no matter how great or small.
“Martha Dismont was a hero and a champion, touching the lives of thousands because of her passion, her work and her commitment to the people of Bermuda.
“Rest in peace our gentle warrior.”
