Genetics firm sponsoring St George’s Cricket Club for Cup Match
A genetic research company has signed up to be a sponsor of St George’s at this year’s Cup Match Classic.
Carika Weldon, a former scientific adviser to the Government, was inspired to have CariGenetics, which she founded, sponsor the St George’s Cricket Club because of her passion for the team and the holiday.
She explained: “I’m standing on the shoulders of Mary Prince and all of our Bermudian ancestors who fought for this holiday.”
Neil Paynter, the club president, thanked the company for its sponsorship and promised fans two days of great cricket and holiday atmosphere.
The company will award one free ticket for the game’s opening day and will also offer fans free Swizzles, as well as the chance to sing karaoke and charge their phones, at its hospitality tent on both days of Cup Match.
Dr Weldon added: “CariGenetics was created by a Bermudian, has a fully Bermudian staff and is for the benefit of Bermudians.
“I want to show that although we are in our infancy stage, we can support our biggest cultural event.
“We are proud to be in a position to do it and I encourage other local businesses to support Cup Match in the future.”
To win the free ticket, people can follow the company on its social media platforms, @CariGenetics, like its Cup Match posts and share their favourite memory of the holiday.
The winner will be announced on social media tomorrow afternoon.
