Bermuda has suffered its second beach-related death of the Cup Match holiday weekend, police can confirm, after the body of a 46-year-old male was found in Castle Harbour shortly before 10am on Saturday.

Just before midnight on Friday, police received reports that the man had disappeared underwater near Frick’s Point and Castle Island, in St George’s.

A police spokesman said: “The male was said to have been in chest-deep water wading from one group of boats to another, which were part of a raft-up when he went under.”

Other boaters in the area were alerted and several persons responded to assist, including the coastguard.

The spokesman added: “The man’s lifeless body was recovered shortly before 10am on Saturday, August 5, in waters in the area of Frick Point, Tucker’s Point, St George’s.”

Death was subsequently confirmed by an on-call physician, and foul play is not suspected.

The incident was the second such tragedy of the holiday weekend in the wake of a 73-year-old man dying at Shelly Bay Beach on Friday after suffering a “medical episode”.
