Quinell Francis to lead St George’s Preservation Authority
Quinell Francis, the Mayor of St George, has been made head of the St George’s Preservation Authority, which is tasked with safeguarding the architectural heritage and protecting the natural beauty of the Olde Towne.
“In a testament to her dedication and expertise, mayor Francis has been entrusted by the Governor to lead the special committee,” read an announcement issued today.
Other members of the SGPA include Corporation of St George’s council members Elizabeth Christopher, Allen Van Putten and Alfonso Harris.
The committee advises in the review of planning applications submitted for work in a “preservation zone”, in which Globe Hotel, Bridge House and Tucker House are situated.
In the announcement, the SGPA said that its website — www.sgpa.bm — has recently been enhanced. It now provides a list of all buildings categorised as grade 1, grade 2, grade 3 and grade HM.
On May 11, Ms Francis was re-elected Mayor of St George, which recently celebrated its 411th anniversary. The town received Unesco heritage designation in 2000.
Ms Francis and the newly appointed council members ”are committed to fostering a future where the historical significance and unique charm of the Historic Towne are carefully preserved for generations to come“, according to the announcement.
