Marcus Smith highlighted for Study in US campaign
Bermudian dancer, model and actor Marcus “Tizzebra” Smith has been highlighted by the US Consulate as it encourages young Bermudians to study in the United States.
Mr Smith was recognised as part of the consulate’s ongoing Study with US campaign, intended to spotlight Bermudians who excelled at US institutions.
The former student of New York University said that his decision to pursue his artistic goals was one of the best decisions he had ever made.
“I have been able to do a lot of incredible magic,” Mr Smith said. “I did a Missy Elliot music video. I did my first Bollywood international debut in Guatemala. I have been able to do films.
“I feel really at peace. I feel really accomplished.”
Karen Grissette, the US Consul-General, said: “Marcus has accomplished so much here in Bermuda and in the United States.
“Marcus expanded his US university experience by successfully applying for US O-1 visa to professionally showcase his broad talents. Applying for this visa is complex, so I commend him for pursuing the process and for continuing to share his gifts while advocating for the LGBTQ+ community.”
Mr Smith has performed in a range of New York venues and has been featured in a range of music videos and film projects, including the music video for Trampoline by David Guetta, Afrojack and Missy Elliott.
He has also continued to ply his trade in Bermuda and has a number of projects in the pipeline, including performances for Bermuda Pride’s Glow Party at Pier 6, Drag Brunch at the Loren and Party in the Park at Victoria Park.
Mr Smith will also be featured in the upcoming Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Bermuda production of Shrek: The Musical, in which he will play Donkey.
