Bad weather postpones sandcastle competition

Concerns about bad weather have blown the Bermuda Sandcastle Competition back a week, said organisers.

The competition had been scheduled to take place at Horseshoe Bay tomorrow but the event will now be held on September 9.

Organisers for the event said on Facebook: “The weather on Saturday still looks very unsettled with lots of rain.

“Stuck between two hurricanes, I really can’t argue with Mother Nature on this one.”

As part of the competition, teams will be assigned an 8ft-by-8ft piece of the beach and will be given tools and a mound of sand to work with to give them a head start.

Their work will be judged with a range of prizes up for grabs including the award for “Best on the Beach”, a $1,000 cash prize sponsored by Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery.

Competitors can also win tickets to the Bermuda Championship PGA Tournament in October, gift certificates and cash.

Teams can sign up for the event on the competition’s website, sandcastle.bm.
