Peace gathering to be held for victims of Middle East conflict
A “Gathering for Peace” will be held at the Anglican Cathedral on Church Street today following the terrorist attack on Israel this month.
Event organiser Glenn Fubler said the gathering, which will be held between 1pm and 2pm, will provide an opportunity for residents of all faiths to join in prayer and reflection.
More than 1,400 Israeli civilians were slaughtered in the attack, which was carried out by the Palestinian group Hamas. Israel has since launched reprisal attacks on Gaza.
Mr Fubler said: “The spirit of this gathering is to create an open and welcoming space in which we are called upon to reflect and reinforce the reality of our common humanity alongside the Israeli and Palestinians peoples and to lament and to pray for all who have been caught up in this cycle of conflict there and around the world – with the hope of peace, justice and a renewed future.
“We welcome local residents of any and all backgrounds and faiths to join this gathering for peace amid all the clamour and fear of this time and to experience our unity in lament for all involved in this period of crisis in that part of the world and its implications for who share the planet.
“Please come for a quiet and reflective moment, side by side with all those who share in this collective concern.”
