Lest we forget: poppies on sale

Memorial poppies were on sale on the streets of Hamilton yesterday ahead of Remembrance Day on Saturday.

The sales team from Gibbons Co pitched in for the Bermuda Legion’s pop-up shop selling poppies and wreaths in the Russell Eve Building on Church Street.

A bicycle prop used in shop windows became the basis of an eye-catching display, with pedestrians buying remembrance poppies from Lieutenant Andrew Wallace of the Royal Bermuda Regiment and Bermuda Legion case worker Carol Everson.

Full-time regiment staff pitch in every year to support the poppy appeal and help out the legion, he said.

This year, the appeal has added a second tag day — going ahead tomorrow all over the island — particularly in the streets of Hamilton.
