Soldiers give to Poppy Appeal cause
A windfall donation for the Bermuda Legion’s annual November 11 poppy appeal came to the charity from the Royal Bermuda Regiment Association.
The Legion, as of this year, has taken on benefits for former and serving soldiers, on top of its usual clientele of Bermuda war veterans and their widows.
The cheque for $1,000 came from the association’s president, Peter Aldrich, with vice-president Roderick Spencer.
Mr Aldrich said the annual donation from the RBRA to the Bermuda Legion represented “our commitment and gratitude to the Bermuda war veterans and their families”.
“The sacrifices made by those that served in times of conflict to protect our freedom cannot be forgotten.”
Carol Everson, a caseworker with the legion, said: “We are most pleased and grateful for the donation and our valued relationship with the association.
“We are still in need of more donations and volunteers to assist with poppy sales — so please continue to give generously, thank you.”
The public can contribute to the cause online at HSBC bank account 010 731354 001.
To volunteer for poppy sales, contact Ms Everson at 732-0100.
The Royal Bermuda Regiment Association Membership is open to actively serving soldiers, the Bermuda Coast Guard, former or retired RBR soldiers and predecessor-unit personnel.
Basic membership is $20 year with membership being free to those over 65. The RBRA has been invited by the Royal Bermuda Regiment to march in the Remembrance Day Parade this Saturday.
Former RBR soldiers interested in joining should contact the association as soon as possible.
