Salvation Army announces new officers
Major Cathy Simms is the new divisional commander for the Salvation Army in Bermuda, with her partner Major Darryl Simms as Corps Officer, giving pastoral leadership at the charity’s North Street Citadel.
The two, who previously pastored at Friswell’s Hill in Devonshire, have returned to the island from divisional service for the Salvation Army in Canada.
The Simms aim to “work among local leadership and lead the church in programmes that are relevant and transformational”, the charity said.
New to the island are Lieutenants Lester and Almeta Ward from Newfoundland, Canada.
Mr Ward is the executive director of community services, which oversees the Harbour Light programme, the emergency and transitional housing shelter, and emergency disaster services.
Ms Ward has been appointed as the pastor of the St George’s Corps, and will give oversight to women’s ministries within the division.
The Wards were previously appointed to the city of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, in western Canada.
