ʽPride’ as BermudAir jet greets golfers and fans

Golf enthusiasts who attended the Butterfield Bermuda Championship may have been excused for momentarily taking their eyes off the ball.

For a BermudAir jet aircraft performed a low-level fly-past at the event on Saturday afternoon.

Crowds were wowed by the spectacle, which featured one of the airline’s Embraer E175 aircraft.

Guests, players and residents were given advance notice of the display, when they were advised that the plane would fly over the water alongside Port Royal Golf Course, with the closest points being the fifteenth and sixteenth holes.

A statement from BermudAir last week said: “The aircraft will fly at approximately 500ft above sea level, which is low enough to give a great visual of its unique and distinctive livery in flight.”

It added that the “salute” was given regulatory approval and was part of the airline’s participation in the championship.

A post on Instagram from the Bermuda Tourism Authority and BermudAir said later that “national pride was on full display” as the airline “made its debut flyover” at the event.

The airline said that the response from the community was “overwhelmingly positive”.

A spokeswoman added: “We truly appreciated feeling so much pride from the community about our aircraft salute.”

BermudAir launched with its first ticket sales in August and operates flights to and from Westchester County Airport, Boston Logan International Airport and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
