A woman with years of experience is the National Museum of Bermuda’s new advancement director.

Katie Bennett, who has a bachelor’s degree in archaeology from Hamilton College and a master’s in museum anthropology from Columbia University, both in New York, is no stranger to the NMB team.

Her master’s thesis explored the organisation’s transition from the Bermuda Maritime Museum to the National Museum of Bermuda, where she has been advancement officer for the past five years.

Ms Bennett also worked in communications and development roles at the Museum of the City of New York, the Vermont Historical Society and the Lower East Side Tenement Museum.

She called her time at the museum “incredible” and said the organisation’s ability to raise almost $10 million for the Future of History campaign during the pandemic “is testament to the vision and work of the National Museum, and I am thrilled to now be leading the advancement activities to ensure that NMB has a strong and stable future”.

Elena Strong, the NMB’s executive director said: “I look forward to Ms Bennett continuing to articulate the museum’s case for support and now leading the stewardship and cultivation of major and annual gifts.

“Her work provides the necessary financial stability for NMB to ensure that learning Bermuda history and heritage is part of every educational journey on island.”
