Members sought for Wage Commission and NCAB
The Government is looking for members of the public to step up to join both the Wage Commission and the National Certification and Apprenticeship Board.
A statement from the Ministry of Economy and Labour said the NCAB, formerly known as the National Training Board, was recently the subject of amendments intended to give it “more clearly defined functions”.
“Clarifying the functions of the board will enable the establishment and delivery of apprenticeship education programmes, the issuance of national certification credentials and the governance of skilled trades in Bermuda,” the statement said.
“It is imperative that the Government works in harmony with workforce stakeholders, and the new approach will be instrumental in achieving this goal.
“The National Certification and Apprenticeship Board is seeking new members to serve for one year, with the minister responsible for the appointees.
“Candidates must have relevant experience in education and training, with industry knowledge being an important attribute.
“Interested parties should also have a sound regulatory and legal understanding and be well versed in strategic planning and financial matters, a reputation for ethical conduct and a desire to keep up to date on best practices and industry trends.”
The ministry announced that it was also seeking individuals to join the Wage Commission, responsible for making recommendations for minimum hourly wages and living wages.
Members of the commission are appointed by the minister responsible for labour and must have “broad experience and expertise in economics, law, statistics and other suitable qualifications”.
Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said Bermuda’s first minimum wage came into effect on June 1.
“As we now look to implementing Bermuda's first living wage rate, I encourage those in our community with the skills, expertise and dedication to contribute their part in what will be another historic moment to the people of Bermuda, especially for those most in need,” Mr Hayward said.
"I thank the Wage Commission members for their continued contributions as well as those community members who may join the commission in advance for their interest in becoming future members of the commission, and in so doing, cementing their names in the annals of Bermuda's history."
Those interested in joining the commission or the NCAB must apply by December 31, with application forms available online at forms.gov.bm/Departments/The-Cabinet-Office/Expression-of-Interest.
