Kindley Field boat ramp could be revitalised
A concrete boat ramp on Kindley Field Road could soon be rehabilitated, according to a recent planning application.
The application, submitted this year by the Department of Parks, proposed restoring the boat ramp at Stonecrusher Corner in St George’s and the installation of mats of “drivable grass”.
A report penned by a planning officer recommended that the Development Applications Board approve the plan, noting that an identical plan for the site was given the green light by the DAB in 2019.
Despite the previous planning approval, work on the site never began and the approval has since expired.
The report said: “In this case, the proposal is essential to the enjoyment of the park in respect of serving boating activities and events, no features of special environmental value or scientific interest would be affected, the development would not be unduly visually prominent while the surrounding area would be enhanced by landscaping, and the National Parks Commission, as well as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (Marine and Terrestrial Conservation), have confirmed no objections.
“While natural materials would not be used, the proposal is for a utilitarian structure which necessarily requires the use of robust materials while the use of porous surfacing for the access is considered to be positive in respect of mitigating impacts from surface water run off on to Kindley Field Road.”
The proposal is expected to go before the DAB tomorrow.
