Former soldiers donate to hunger charity
Former Royal Bermuda Regiment soldiers raised more than $1,000 in food and cash for a local charity.
This was raised through the Royal Bermuda Regiment Association’s second annual beer call and food drive, held at the Bermuda Craft Brewery on Thursday.
Peter Aldrich, the RBRA president, said: “The event was well supported, and we collected a good quantity of non-perishable food items and monetary donations, which were converted into food for The Eliza DoLittle Society.”
The RBRA added $500 worth of non-perishable food items to the drive, raising more than $1,200 in total, which surpassed last year’s $1,000.
Welcoming the contribution, Claire Mello, the executive director of The Eliza DoLittle Society, said the charity “believes that providing a bag of groceries each week to people facing hunger is about more than food. It’s also about reducing the cost of food and the anxiety associated with food insecurity.
“The donation of food from RBRA will help ensure that our clients will have food to put on their table this holiday season.”
Thanking the brewery management, Gavin Rayner, the RBRA’s second vice-president, said: “This event was another great success and it was wonderful to see all our members enjoying themselves.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone that contributed.”
• Donations to the charity can be sent to Butterfield account 2000 6060 20727 0100. More information is available at theelizadolittlesociety.bm. Learn more about the RBRA by calling 535-5858 or e-mailing regimentassociation@gmail.com, and visiting regimentassociation.com
