Holidays will affect weekly garbage collection

The holiday season will affect weekly trash collection, the Ministry of Public Works has said.

A statement from the ministry said that, as a result of Christmas and Boxing Day, garbage normally collected on Monday will be picked up on December 27, Tuesday’s will be picked up on the 28th, Wednesday’s on the 29th and Thursday’s and Friday’s will be collected on December 30.

Recyclables will be collected as usual next week — on December 28 in the West End and on the 29th in the East End.

The ministry added: “New Year's Day will also fall on a Monday.

“As a result, waste collections due on Monday, January 1, will roll over to Tuesday, January 2, with this schedule continuing through the week, and ending with Friday's waste being collected on Saturday, January 6.

“Please note that this is not a recycling collection week.”

The Tynes Bay public drop-off will be closed on Christmas Day, open from 9am to 12pm on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, and will operate normal hours every other day.
