Bermuda Housing Corporation makes $1m office investment

The Bermuda Housing Corporation signed more than $1 million of contracts for work on its Church Street offices, according to recently released information.

Details about a number of contracts for work on the first and third floors of Seven Arches, at 44 Church Street, were included in a recent notice published in the Official Gazette under Pati regulations.

The largest was a $329,624 contract with Aircare to replace a ductwork system on the building’s third floor to “maximise the number of occupants on the floor, creating an environment that ensures maximum efficiency, thereby anticipating savings across the operations of the building”.

The contract was dated September 21, 2023, with an end date of April 1 this year.

Aircare was also awarded a $278,006 contract for duct work on the building’s first floor, which was similarly intended to increase the number of people who could work on the floor.

That contract was dated June 2023 and ended in November 2023.

Telford Electric received two contracts for work on the building, including a $182,530 contract for electrical installation and “fit-out” for the Department of Planning on the third floor.

The second contract was valued at $96,418 for electrical installation and a fit-out for the Economic Development Department and the Information Commissioner’s offices on the building’s first floor.

The first contract was dated October 2023, with a completion date of March 2024, while the second was dated March 2023, with a completion date in December 2023.

Bermuda Drywall and Ceilings received an $89,950 contract in 2022 to supply and install a glass system for box-in offices on the first floor, with work completed in March last year.

The company also signed an $88,050 contract in 2022 for work to install drywall partitions and ceiling grids to reconfigure the first floor and increase the number of workstations, with the work completed by August 2023.

The notice also highlighted a range of other contracts from the BHC to work on properties across the island.

The most significant of the contracts was a $780,000 deal with Rise and Shine Construction for work at the former Harmony Club Hotel on South Road in Paget.

The contract, signed in 2022 and completed in April 2023, involved demolition work on eight apartments at the site along with the installation of new interior walls, plumbing, flooring, ceilings and partial installation of new roof, kitchen and windows.

The company also received a $140,000 contract for additional work at Harmony Terraces, which was completed in November 2023.

The work was part of an affordable housing project initiated by the Government and the Bermuda Housing Corporation to repurpose the old property for elderly and emergency accommodation.

LD Construction received a $258,500 contract for renovations, repairs and a roof replacement at 3 Rock Oven Lane, St George’s, and a $189,500 contract for renovations at 79 Southside Road in St David’s to create additional bathrooms.

Stanley Construction received a $233,696 contract for renovations to 1 Redcoat Lane in St George’s to turn a three-bedroom, one-bathroom house into a four-bedroom, two-bathroom house, while Global Innovations received a $167,964 contract for renovations at 2 Wellington Road, St George’s, to create a three-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage.

Several contracts were also awarded for work at 27 Beacon Hill Road, Sandys.

Vision Painting and Maintenance received a $112,490 contract for interior renovations and alterations and an $82,000 contract for exterior renovations at the property, while Zeus Interiors received a $51,210 contract to install stud partition walls and erect ceilings at the property.

The BAC Group of Companies received a $143,599 contract for installation of hot and cold water mains and other waterworks at 26 Tommy Fox Road in St David’s, while Troy Govia received a $132,000 contract for renovations at 5 Aunt Jinny’s Lane, St George’s.

The final listed contract was a $68,000 agreement with General Services for work at 1 Grandstand Lane, Sandys, including window replacements and installation of bathroom fixtures along with painting and electrical work.
