A tight-knit Smith’s community is welcoming two new additions after married guest workers shared news of their twin babies — born on New Year’s Day.

Officially, the island marked the first birth of 2024 on January 2, when parents Ryan and Lyndsay Faries celebrated the arrival of a baby girl, Isabelle Clare Faries.

However, John “Melvin” Pereira and his wife, Alisha Soares, are guest workers from India who flew home for the birth of their twin boys, Alden and Alison.

Mr Pereira lives at Spanish Crescent on Knapton Hill, described by neighbour Olney Bean as “a very special small community”, where neighbours keep in touch via social media.

She added: “We all maintain the Bermudian style of genuine hospitality.”

Mr Pereira lives in the neighbourhood in shared accommodation with other expatriate workers from India who have “touched our lives by sharing with our family the products from their garden”, Ms Bean said.

The couple gave birth to their healthy twin boys on New Year’s Day at 11.34am and 11.36am in Manipal Hospital in Goa.

The boys were named Alison and Alden, weighing in at 5.3lbs and 5.7lbs.

Ms Bean added: “We are eagerly looking forward to seeing these beautiful gifts from God at some time in the future.”
