City Hall infrastructure work continues

Scaffolding in place in the City Hall foyer (Photograph supplied)

The City of Hamilton has informed staff, members of the public and visitors that scaffolding will occupy the City Hall foyer as investigative work is carried out.

Clear signage will be set up in the City Hall lobby to guide visitors and staff around the scaffolding.

A city spokeswoman commented on the investigative works:

“Preliminary structural investigations at City Hall have identified potential vulnerabilities with our City Hall foyer ceiling. This issue is primarily due to the age of the building. It’s an old lath and plaster ceiling, which is showing signs of deterioration.

“It should be noted that this issue does not affect City Hall offices or the above art galleries. The concerns are for the lobby ceiling only, not any other areas. The public are advised that City Hall offices remain open, as do the art galleries which will be operating as normal. Safe access to all three locations is indicated by the erected signage.”

Once exploratory work is completed, further updates will be provided.
