Belco customers in Devonshire and Paget temporarily lost power yesterday as the energy provider carried out a planned outage.

The outage, scheduled to take place between 9am and 5pm, affected more than 250 homes in the central parishes.

A Belco spokesman said: “This outage is necessary for Belco to carry out refurbishment and/or maintenance of our mainlines as part of our ongoing commitment to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable electricity supply.”

The company added on its Facebook page that customers were urged to unplug sensitive equipment and electronics before planned outages.

Members of the public were also urged to exercise extreme caution while riding, driving or walking near the working crews.
