Centennial appoints seasoned finance professional to board
Centennial Bermuda Foundation has appointed Michelle Smith as a board director.
Ms Smith has business and finance experience spanning 30 years in the reinsurance industry. She was recognised as one of the "100 Influential Women in Insurance and Reinsurance" by Intelligent Insurer, an industry publication.
Tom Conyers, Centennial’s chairman, said: “We are honoured to welcome Michelle to the board as we advance our work in the community with equitable and accessible grant making. We value her experience and her thoughtful and strategic contributions for 2024 and beyond.”
Centennial is a private philanthropic organisation that funds a wide range of initiatives and scholarships in Bermuda.
The organisation said that Ms Smith’s career has been defined by her ability to shape strategic vision while building and leading teams, processes and systems.
A spokeswoman said: “Having held positions in several prominent companies, her career highlights include serving as chief financial officer and chief operating officer at Arch Reinsurance, and as the chief transformation officer of Arch Capital Group.
“She was named a Fellow of the International Women’s Forum. She is currently a non-executive director for several publicly listed and privately held organisations.
“Michelle is passionate about supporting economic development and educational opportunities for Bermudians.
“She has assisted in the creation of legislation supporting jobs growth in Bermuda and serves as chairwoman of the Association of Bermuda International Companies Education Awards.
“In addition, she actively supports and mentors people seeking opportunity for growth and progression at all stages of their career.”
Ms Smith has been a member of the Economic Participation Review Committee since 2020 and will now serve as the chairwoman of the Economic Participation Committee, and as a member of the Nominations and Governance Committee.
