Underground cable fault knocks out power for almost 700
An underground cable fault caused a power outage for 700 customers in Somerset last night.
Belco said crews were immediately dispatched and power was quickly restored for the vast majority of people.
Shelly Leman, managing director of Transmission, Distribution and Retail at Belco, said: “On Tuesday, February 13 at approximately 7:23pm a section of underground cable faulted and interrupted supply to just under 700 customers.
“Crews were immediately dispatched to identify the source of the fault and safely make repairs.
“By 9pm, a section of faulted cable was isolated and supply restored to all but nine customers.
“The remaining customers were energised as soon as fault repairs had been safely completed.”
Belco issued an outage alert on its Facebook page last night saying: “We are aware of an outage affecting customers in Somerset in the Sound View Road area.
“Our crew has been dispatched and is working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.
“Please exercise caution when driving or riding past our working crews as the safety of you and our team is of the utmost importance.
“We thank you for your patience as we work to restore your power.”
